Atlantis Marine World Aquarium
Join Atlantis Marine World to kick off summer at the Aquarium over the 4th of July weekend with a nod to history!
Date: 07/03/2010 from 10:00am to 5:00pm
Ages: All

Join Atlantis Marine World to kick off summer at the Aquarium over the 4th of July weekend with a nod to history and celebrate the history of diving by welcoming diver, Bob Rusnak who will suit up in traditional diving gear for a free dive into the Aquarium's largest exhibit - the 120,000-gallon Lost City of Atlantis Shark Tank. He will be surrounded by circling sharks, a giant loggerhead turtle, a prehistoric-looking moray eel, and many other creatures during his series of presentations, scheduled at 11:00am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm. An Aquarium educator will join him on his journey and speak to guests from the bottom of the exhibit wearing more modern gear, including a special helmet that will allow for communications with the crowd.  Atlantis is extra proud to offer this program, especially on a weekend where our nation is honoring it's history.

The Aquarium will also present shallow water diving demonstrations in their Snorkel Tank throughout the day at 11:45am and 1:15pm where one lucky winner will be selected from the crowd and allowed to suit up in historic gear and dive along with the expert in each session.

There also will be plenty of hands-on fun for kids, with SCUBA mask face painting and crafts. And guests who are already SCUBA certified are eligible for a 10% Admission discount throughout the day, simply by showing their card.

Ages: 7 and up Admission Fees: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members)

Human beings have been diurnal animals for millions of years-we are active during the day, and we sleep and dream at night. Our relationship with night and darkness has led to a variety of cultural superstitions surrounding them, and intriguing depictions in art, poetry, and music all across the world. Let us celebrate the new exhibit, Night Journeys, by exploring the mysteries of the night through nocturne paintings, ones that portray night scenes. Be inspired by nocturnes painted by world-renowned artists, and produce your own to guide you through your own night journey!

Let's learn about pizza!  Did you know that in Italy the most commonly known pizza is la Margherita? This pizza was specially made by Raffaele Esposito for Queen Margherita of Savoy. The queen's favorite toppings were those showing the colors of the Italian Flag-Verde (basil), Bianco (mozzarella), and Rosso (tomatoes). The combination of all three makes the most famously eaten pizza in the world! In this workshop you children will have fun learning about Italian pizza and its special ingredients. At the end of the workshop, they will create a pizza project and be able to have a taste of the Italian culture.
