Halloween Display to Scare Off DiabetesGomula FamilyGet in the Halloween spirit with a Long Island family and raise money for a great cause!
Date: Every day (Oct 10-Oct 31)
During the month of October, more than 1,000 people will visit the Gomula residence where they are ushered into the Halloween spirit as they tip-toe through the haunted front yards of Frank, III, and his 77-year-old father, Frank, Jr., who lives next door. The men and their family do more than decorate for Halloween, they use machinist skills and plenty of creativity to rig up a spooky setting complete with gravestones, cobwebs, skeletons, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, and much more. The entire family gets involved in this inventive scheme to raise funds for the Diabetes Research Institute year-after-year.
Frank and Karen Gomula of Levittown, NY, create a Halloween display each year, and ask visitors to give a donation to the Diabetes Research Institute, the best hope for a cure for two of their daughters, Lauryn, 25, and Lindsay, 19, who have type 1 diabetes. The family has been coping with the disease since the girls were diagnosed at ages 7 and 10, respectively. Diabetes is known to be scary, but for this imaginative group, raising money for a cure stirs up quite a fright, as well.
