Non Profit Spotlight

Each month we post a wish list for a different Long Island organization. It is our hope that people in the community who see this list might be able to help meet these needs in some way. If you have a wish list you would like posted, please send us an email with your attached wish list. If everyone gives just a little, we can help others in a big way.

Overview

The Parenting Resource Network is an information and referral service for parents of children birth to five who are looking for information about community resources, reassurance, support or guidance. Many parents are so busy juggling demands of family and career that it is challenging to look for support or opportunities to educate themselves on parenting matters. The Parenting Resource Network aims to become that centralized phone number where parents and other caregivers can obtain parenting tips and knowledge at little or no cost. Got Questons? Our History

The Parenting Resource Network consists of a coalition of LI agencies and organizations that are involved in early childhood and parenting education. Each recognizes the importance of the first five years of life to a child's future educational achievements and wants to help parents maximize that potential. Through our events calendar, parents can access information about local parent education classes or workshops. In addition there are links to other resources with valuable parent education information. Through our "Warmline" (516-240-6018), parents and other caregivers can speak with early childhood professionals who will help with questions or concerns about their young child. We don't promise to have all the answers but do promise to partner with the parent to help find the answers. There are many resources available to parents which most people know nothing about. We are here to help connect parents with those resources and reassure parents that they are not alone in trying to do the most important job in the world - one which requires the least preparation and comes with no instruction manual.

Other

The last few years have seen an explosion of research on how a child's brain develops with 85% of that development taking place before the age of five. This reinforces the role parents play as their child's first teacher. Our goal is to get solid child development information into parents hands at an early age in order to maximize their ability to raise happy, healthy children who are developmentally ready to succeed in school and in life.
