Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program
We need women who have had breast cancer to become volunteers on our hotline. Others may volunteer to help with clerical and other activities, such as fund raising. • About Us: Any New York State resident concerned about breast cancer can call the toll-free number of the Adelphi Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program at 800-877-8077 to receive emotional support and information about breast cancer.
Callers will be able to talk to trained volunteers, most of them women who have had breast cancer. All calls are confidential.
Locally the program offers support groups, individual counseling and information seminars.
The program is a nonprofit agency funded by the State Legislature, NYS Department of Health, Adelphi University School of Social Work and private contributions.
There is a group of young girls in New York State that started a project that they have been doing for 8 years. It is a great thing to start locally because it is a hands on way for kids to give back. Below is how you can do this by having your kids and some of their friends get together once or twice a year to get the animals and books ready to donate.
Kids can help by donating their animals and books or by contributing some of their allowance to help raise money. They can also assist with restoring the animals.
Give them a lift by washing them and putting fresh buttons or ribbons on them. You can wrap the books in tissue paper and a ribbon to make it more fun.
Donate to other countries, give to a local hospital or organization that helps underprivileged kids, Research organizations that could benefit from this and then commit to doing it each year at the same time. I would encourage you to do this after the holidays when people tend to forget about giving.

Response of Suffolk County
RESPONSE HOTLINE IS "HEAR2HELP"
Response of Suffolk County is a nationally accredited agency providing crisis intervention/suicide prevention services. In addition to our free, confidential and anonymous telephone counseling, Response's services include an ONLINE crisis intervention service, called Hear2Help. Open to anyone on within our catchment area who is more comfortable "talking" online than talking over the phone - but especially targeted to teens and young adults - Hear2Help counselors are available to talk with callers about a huge range of struggles, including peer pressure, relationship difficulties, bullying, thoughts of suicide, feelings of isolation, physical or sexual abuse, loss of a loved one, and substance-related problems. For adolescents who go to the Internet community to seek support and understanding, Hear2Help is a safe place for them to talk about their struggles. As with hotline calls, all Hear2Help calls are confidential, free, and anonymous. Referral information about support groups, counselors, specialized hotlines, associations, government programs, clinics and many other local community resources are also provided upon the caller's request. We believe the more opportunities people have to talk openly about life struggles and problems, the more likely someone who is suffering in silence will be to recognize that they are not alone and that help is available. You can reach a Hear2Help counselor online at www.responsehotline.org, or call Response Hotline at 631- 751-7500.
